Wikipedia was launched on January 15 2001, coincidentally the same day Creative
Commons <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons> registered their
website <http://whois.domaintools.com/creativecommons.org>. As you may know
January 1 2019 was  Public Domain Day
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Domain_Day> when, for the first time
in some years, a bunch of US stuff
<https://observer.com/2018/12/2019-copyright-works-entering-public-domain/>
became
copyright free. Today we celebrate these three elements which, combined
with plenty of effort from people like you, are what have given us this
remarkable resource.

the day will feature keynote presentations, breakout group discussions,
lightning talks and yes, for those present, cake. More than 150 people are
expected to join conversations about Wikimedia and allied projects
presented by *Free Culture Alliance NYC
